01

The beautiful Oamaru Opera House stands on Thames Street, an intact, heritage-listed nineteenth century streetscape.

For over a century the Opera House has represented the heart, soul and passions of Oamaru. It has been a hub for social, political and cultural activity and continues to evolve as a venue for performing arts, functions and conferences.

The building was officially opened on October 7, 1907 and remains largely in its original condition, having been restored in 2010, winning a NZIA Heritage award.

Lynley Caldwell and Bridget Ellis

Oamaru's new acoustic duo take you on a journey from sealing to space travel. Singing rich harmonies, their voices draw listeners in. Beguiling arrangements for voice, harp and guitar are sometimes surprising, always strong. Original and recovered songs pass through Celtic, jazz and contemporary kiwi styles to lead you to a satisfying destination.
The pair plan to record their music next year and this concert is part of the fundraising to make this possible.

The Great Gatsby Christmas Party
The Great Gatsby Christmas Party

A Christmas party like never before

Mention the name Gatsby and it conjures images of parties, excesses of every kind, glamour, glitz and a society fuelled by impulse and desire.

It was 1920s New York and Gatsby’s parties were legendary.

That legend continues this Christmas in New Zealand with a cabaret show that recreates the hedonism of the Gatsby era with “wild parties” in venues around New Zealand. A sumptuous cabaret inspired by the great American novel of 1925.
